HIGHLIGHTS TRAINING

Attendance for the Stewards Training Session held Saturday April 12, 2008 included 65 Stewards and alternates from Local 200.
“Attendance was great as was the participation,” said Local 200 Secretary Treasurer Tom Millonzi. “Our guests from the International did a wonderful job.”

Handling of grievances, Stewards duties, the importance of our political involvement and rating issues important for our Local to be involved in were just some of the items discussed.

Shawn Ellis from IBT Training, Karin Jones from the Communication Department and Tony Fiori from D.R.I.V.E. were in attendance and delivered presentations to your Stewards.

“Karin gave a riveting account of Teamsters in history that everyone seemed to enjoy,” said Local 200 President Tom Bennett. “Her account of our heritage, from the Teamsters contributions to the war efforts, back to the very beginnings of our Union gave us all a perspective of how we got here, and the struggles that our brothers and sisters before us faced as a Labor organization.”

Your Local Executive Board would like to thank all of the Stewards and alternate Stewards. Your attendance at these training sessions shows your desire and dedication to better serve the members that you represent.

UPS FREIGHT MEMBERS WIN THEIR FIRST CONTRACT

UPS members raise their hands
and take the Teamsters Oath

Saturday April 5 and Sunday April 6 UPS employees came to Local 200 to sign applications, take the oath of membership and vote on their first ever contract as Teamsters.
“This is a great day for the Teamsters and this Local as all across the country UPS Freight employees are making history,” said Local 200 President Tom Bennett.
“I personally have waited for this day for over 10 years,” said UPS employee Cecil Koester.
Cecil was also one of 3 UPS members to be voted in by his fellow Teamsters to represent them as Union Steward.
“This Local and this entire Union is proud to welcome the UPS Freight members into our family,” said Local 200 Secretary-Treasurer Tom Millonzi.

"Senator Obama will stand with the Teamsters when it comes to fighting for working families," General President Jim Hoffa said. The endorsement mobilizes the union's 1.4 million members and their families to elect the Illinois senator.
