It is with great sadness to share the recent news we have received informing us of the passing of Teamsters Local 200 Brother Duane Kopecky of YRC. Duane’s history at Local 200 begins with his Initiation Date of February 28, 1979, with Duane working to just recently. When there is talk about leaders within Teamsters Local 200, Duane fits that category without question. His approach was absolutely based on the working man’s needs and the results he reached were to support working families.  His role as a Union Steward served many with his vision and devotion.

We will miss Duane as he was the model of a Union Brother.

During the recent Wisconsin Teamsters Joint Council No.39 Quarterly Meeting in Milwaukee, Claudia Rowe of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Training and Development Department presented an educational program for the attendees from across the State of Wisconsin.

In attendance from Teamsters Local 200 were Executive Board Officers, Business Agents, and several members of Local 200. Taking part of the Internal Organizing Training were Local 200 Mike Kopaczewski (Snap On Tool), Ron Moeller (Waste Management), Jimmie Lockett (US Foods), Chris Kruk (Nestle), and Erv Martin (Roundy's).

The Wisconsin Teamsters Joint Council No. 39 Officers thank General President Sean O'Brien, General Secretary Treasurer Fred Zuckerman, and Training and Development Director Paul Trujillo for their efforts to have Claudia Rowe at the Quarterly Meeting.

Billion-Dollar Company Preparing to Deport 600 Union Jobs from Wisconsin

Press Contact: Kara Deniz Phone: (202) 497-6610 Email: kdeniz@teamster.org

(WISCONSIN) – The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is fighting plans by Energizer to outsource good-paying jobs, after the company announced intentions to close its battery plants in Fennimore and Portage, Wisc. The company told workers and Teamster representatives it plans to offshore American manufacturing jobs and send others to a nonunion facility in North Carolina.

Nearly 600 Wisconsin workers at the two plants are members of Teamsters Local 695.

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien personally committed the full resources and support of the 1.2 million-member Teamsters to keep the union jobs in Wisconsin.

“Energizer is putting a plan in motion to kill hundreds of good jobs here in America and offshore them in favor of even bigger profits,” O’Brien said. “Some workers have been in these factories for more than 40 years. The American public should be outraged by these plans. Our entire union is furious. If Energizer thinks it’s going to outsource American jobs and destroy Wisconsin communities, we’ve got news for them — the Teamsters are coming and we will stop at nothing to protect American workers.”

The company told the Teamsters it plans to close the plants in Fennimore and Portage in the next 12-24 months, providing few details or information about the planned closures.

Last year, Energizer gave $93 million to shareholders through quarterly dividends and posted a gross profit of $1.1 billion. In three years, the corporation tripled its CEO’s compensation to $9 million.

In 2020, Wisconsin gave Energizer a five-year, $600,000 tax credit to create 96 jobs and retain 453 jobs. Since 1999, Energizer has received more than $10 million in public subsidies from six states.

Wisconsin Teamsters at the plants produce batteries for Energizer’s retail brands, including Eveready and Rayovac, as well as specialty batteries for hearing aids.

On behalf of the Retirees, Actives and the Families of General Teamsters Local Union No. 200, we extend our appreciation towards Kenny Stribling and Bernie Anderson for their efforts on hosting a recent gathering on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the Local Union.

As we gathered to share the excitement regarding funding to ensure solvency of Central States Pension Fund, those in attendance were recognized for their efforts and special recognition was offered to those who were not able to attend the event. Pension Committees and their Membership across Wisconsin were thanked for efforts, along with all other Pension Committees across the nation.

Wisconsin's U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin made a special appearance at the event, and she was praised for her commitment to ensure her focus and efforts served all in the best possible fashion. Senator Baldwin was thanked by Kenny Stribling and Bernie Anderson for her determination. An email from Bob Amsden was read to Senator Baldwin in his absence that recognized the Senator's focus and hard work.

President Bill Carroll of Wisconsin Teamsters Joint Council No. 39 addressed the attendees and offered his personal praise for the efforts undertaken by all.

The event addressed the Pension Funding in a very positive direction, but our efforts shall continue forward on the protection of your earned dollars that are preserved for your Social Security.

Teamsters Local 200 Business Agents Tom Benvenuto and Gary Shearier are very active in the positive direction of the Milwaukee Building & Construction Trades Council and this effort speaks volumes about the Council and the Unions involved.

Giving back to the community creates an everlasting partnership.

Honoring the vision and actions of Dr.King
